Romanian online retailer eMAG expands to Poland
eMAG, the largest online retailer in Romania, sets foot in Poland. Its sales platform will extend into this Eastern European country, after eMAG.ro’s owner Dante International acquired Agito, one of Poland’s biggest online stores. Poland will be the fourth international market where eMAG.ro will be active in, after Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary.
According to the Romanian business website Business Review Dante International has sent a notification at the end of December 2014 to The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection in Poland. “After their answer we will implement the changes. The Romanian and Polish experience will then be integrated”, Stanciu said. It’s not clear how much money was involved in order to acquire Agito.
“This expansion is part of our long term strategy to consolidate our position in the region”, Sorin Ionescu, international development director at Dante International said. “Presently, because of the three markets where we are already active in – Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary – we can access a base of 36 million clients. Now we are entering a huge country in the region, with 39 million inhabitants, an online retail market of 4 billion euros and a huge potential for growth.”
About eMAG and Agito
eMAG began with its online store in 2001 and started selling only computer systems and office prodcuts. Over the years it also started selling personal care items, sporting goods, books, music, movies, home and garden products and much more. Little less than a half year ago it launched its own online supermarket in Romania.
Agito is seen as the biggest online retail store in Poland. Founded in 2002, it also started as a store for consumer electronics, but soon expanded into other categories like home appliances, tools, toys and fashion.(From:Ecommerce News)
